Life has been very busy lately. More busy than I expected when I was pregnant. Four kids are a lot of work, but four kids that are all of different ages are even more. I am getting used to the constant demand of my time and attention. With Funky Monkey and Girly Monkey in dance and soccer, and Little Monkey in dance and homeschooling them all, and Baby Monkey still in the infant stage I find that most days test my patience and endurance.
Recently, we have noticed hat
Baby Monkey has started to spit up a lot after nursing and in between nursing.
Since Little Monkey had reflux when he was a baby we recognized that as such.
On top of having to change mine and Baby Monkey's clothes on constantly he
developed a bad rash on his face from putting his fingers to mouth full of
stomach-acid filled spit up and then smearing it on his cheeks. Little Monkey
was a victim of that side effect too. Little Monkey lived with that for a whole
year before it got better! I just didn't want to deal with it for so long with
Baby Monkey Luckily, when Little Monkey was 2 years old we took him to a
chiropractor (for his elbow, not reflux) and the wonderful doctor informed us
that we should have brought him in when he was a baby as a chiropractic
treatment would have helped with reflux. I have ever heard of babies being
treated at a chiropractor, but supposedly it is done very frequently. So as
soon as we suspected reflux in Baby Monkey I booked an appointment with the
wonderful doctor. The treatment itself is very un-invasive. I lie down on the
bed and lay my son on my chest. The doctor then uses a little clicking tool to
gently click and adjust babies' spine and joints. Baby M smiled and cooed the
whole time. Apparently, it felt good.
Little Monkey sick with the stomach flu, and getting some mommy cuddles |
The doc said that Baby M's
hips were out and he was tight in the middle of his back, and that one of his
shoulders was very tight too. He adjusted all of this and said to come in a
week. Second visit was much shorter and the doc said that Baby M was much more
loose in his back the. And the results of the treatment? His reflux has
diminished significantly!!!! I can't believe it myself. Before visiting a
chiropractor, Baby M wouldn't even lie on his back without screaming, and not
he is very comfortable!!! Although very expensive (50 dollars for a first visit
and 35 after) it was money very well spent. Since then Daddy has seen the
chiropractor and I am going this week (thanks to a wonderful Grandma Sue who
gave us each a visit for our birthdays)
Baby M had his first set of
shots on Valentine's Day. He was not very happy that day as he was just getting
over a stomach flu we all had. He got the standard 3 pokes and a new vaccine
for Roto-virus. He got his weight and height checked too. He is now 12lbs and
9oz, and 23 1/8 inches long! He has sure grown since birth!!
Baby M did not take well to
his first shots and was very feverish for the rest of the day. It was hard on
me to see him so achy. I gave him a dose of Infant Tylenol and let him sleep it
off. I even dosed off with him a bit while Daddy looked after the other 3
Monkeys.
Baby Monkey aka Dr. Love! |
I got woken up to a wonderful
Valentine’s Day surprise. Daddy and the other 3 kids made a wonderful pasta
dinner and made our living room look like a restaurant. When I came downstairs,
Girly Monkey (in the role of a hostess) sat me at a table where Daddy was
already sitting. There was a Lego candle holder (obviously build by the kids)
with a single lit candle. The table was covered with a blue table cloth. There
were drawings decorating the walls. Funky Monkey came with hand made menus and
took our order. It was so very lovely. We then asked the kids to join us for a
cake. It was such a lovely surprise. I love my husband so much for coming up
with this idea and I love my kids for participating in it. These are the best
people in the world!!!!
Sunday, we all went to the
Aquarium for Funky Monkey's Birthday. Funky Monkey is turning 10 on the 19th
and this was his choice of an outing. He is turning 10!!!! I can't believe that
my first-born is turning 10!!!
