This is crazy busy part of the year now. Every year, starting in April and ending in June I wish I could just crawl into a hole and hide, or run away to a sunny place with a sandy beach and a beautiful water front and not come back until July. In the span of three months we have Daddy's and mine birthdays, Easter, Our wedding anniversary, Mother's day, Father's day, Dance competitions, Year end show and rehearsal, Year end parties for soccer, and finishing up all the school work for the year. It's busy, and days are super long, but this year with Baby Monkey being only a little infant, it's that much harder.
We had a lovely
Easter/birthday dinners. We got a chance to have one dinner with Grandma and
Gramps, Daddy's brother and our nephew. It was lovely and we were glad to have
them over because Grandma and Gramps were leaving for Mexico and
would not be here for Easter. The following weekend, we had a desert get
together with my sister, my cousin, and my cousin's fiancé. We all had such a
lovely time visiting. We don't get to see my sister too often so every time we
see her it's special. I got the most amazing birthday gift from my sister. She
surprised me with a new Pandora charm to represent Mike. It's only my second
charm and I am very excited to have that one. It's a beautiful heart with the
word "Love" in many languages. I love it.
It was also the
last time that we got to see my cousin and her hubby-to-be before they became
parents. They had their little cutie since then, so I am really glad that we
had that last time to see them before they became super busy with their little
angel.
When we had our
Easter desert I was taking to my cousin about babies and parenthood. Daddy
later mentioned that he thought that I was being a little cynical about being a
parent and I might have scared both parents-to-be a bit. That was never my
intention, but I am not one to sugar-coat things either. Let's face it,
parenting is a tough job. It's a job where you work overtime, get thrown-up on,
pooped on, have sleepless nights, no vacation, no pay, and most of the time no
one even knows what you do all day (except other parents such in the same place
as you.) But I also have faith that they can do it. As hard as parenting is,
many people have done it before us and many will do it after us. If parents
figure out how to do it the right way (as in the way that would benefit their
kids and not themselves) they can reap the rewards of watching their grown kids
be productive, well mannered, hardworking members of society. That's our pay
... we get paid in pride, .... pride in our kids achievements.
Mother's Day was
another special day. Daddy and the kids surprised me with a trip to the Zoo and
a lovely buffet dinner. It was a lovely surprise as the day before I was complaining
about how little family walks we now do. We used to spend so much time on
family outings, but lately with all the kids' activities we have less and less
time as a family. So the trip to the Zoo was a perfect way to remedy that. Baby
Monkey slept in my Ergo carrier for most of the walk, so I could focus on just
talking a nice stroll through the Zoo. I love going there. We used to have
passes to go there, but since we no longer live very close to there we have not
gotten passes to go there in couple years. I remember when Daddy and I went to
the Zoo for the very first time when we were dating. I remember taking Funky
Monkey there when he was only 3 months old, as a matter of fact it was my very
first Mother's Day. And now, 10 years later we went to the same place, except now
we have 4 kids, we have been married for almost 11 years, and we are a little
better at this "being a parent" thing.
Last Saturday we
celebrated our 11th wedding Anniversary. I can’t believe that we
have been married for 11 years already. To celebrate it, we went out to the
same restaurant that Daddy proposed at. It was really wonderful. Daddy’s
parents came with us and we had all our kiddos there too. Oh, how life has
changed in the last 11 years!
Sunday we did
something that we don’t get a chance to do very often, we went all the way to
visit my sister. My sister lives about 45 minute drive from us, so we don’t get
to see her very much. Together we went to Kitsilano, to the beach, and for a
walk. It was wonderful and we had a blast visiting with her. My kids love her
so much and I am soooo glad that they have her in their life!
