A new distraction!

Sometimes I wonder if we are just little pawns in someone's game. It always seem like just when we can bear no more then something else happens. Distractions seem to interfere with my plans all the time. Take today for instance. I had great plans for what I could get out of today. Since Saturdays are very busy already I didn't have great plans but little ones just to get me a bit further on my to-do list. We are having another cake for Girly Monkey tomorrow with Daddy's family (they couldn't make it last weekend since they were all away). So I planned to get all the Monkeys to all their activities and then come home and bake a cake for tomorrow and go through some of the baby clothes. I really have to get on that since I am now 34 weeks. I still don't know what I have and what I need.

The morning started in a very ordinary way. We ate breakfast, got ready for Funky Monkey's dance class, and left. Daddy went to soccer and I took Funky Monkey and the other 2 Monkeys to dance class (only Funky Monkey has class in the morning but all 3 have to come with me). I dropped off Funky Monkey at the class and parked the car. Another mom just dropped off her son and we started talking about the fog and being busy and loosing track of time. Suddenly, I got a phone call from Daddy. It's very unusual to hear from him at this time since he should be on his way to soccer (he is a head coach of Funky Monkey's team). I answered that call thinking that he simply forgot something. But that was not the case. It turned out that he was in an accident. He run a red light and hit someone in another truck. The first thought through my mind was if he was OK. He said that he was fine. So I immediately thought of the other car. Daddy drives a big, cube van and if he was to run into someone then the chances were that the other person was not so lucky. Thankfully the other guy was fine too, since Daddy swerved in the last second hitting the other guys' bumper and not his driver side door.

The other mom (who is a really sweet lady) offered to look after Funky Monkey when he left the class so that I could drive over to Daddy and pick him up. I quickly packed up the other 2 Monkeys and drove to the scene of the accident. Daddy was right. Although both trucks sustained damage to the front, the driver cabs were untouched. Both Daddy and the other young guy were standing on the sidewalk. What a relief! There was already a police officer on site too. He walked up to Daddy and gave him his driver licence back plus, as he said "a parting gift" - a ticket for 175 dollars for failing to stop at the red light. Daddy thanked him and said "I am very glad that you were at the doughnut shop because you could get here so fast". Constable Williams smirked a bit and with a bit of hurt in his voice replied "I was actually at the BANK!". Yup, that's right, Daddy managed to insult the police officer without even knowing it. I know that it was probably the shock of the accident that made Daddy loose his tact. I really hope that the police officer didn't take it to heart.

To add injury to the whole situation is the fact that Daddy has no collision on his truck and it means that he will have to pay for towing the truck, and storage at the towing yard, and that he will have to cover the price of the new truck, since the repairs on this one are more than value of the truck. Yup, a hard situation just got more difficult. And since money were already tight with the new baby coming, it will push back even further the things we needed to get.

There is a saying in Poland that goes something like that "when a person is in a hurry, the devil laughs". It means that when you hurry to get things done something bad is always bound to happen. And since we are always in a hurry and haste that Devil seems to laugh a whole lot around us. I just have to keep on remembering that "this, too, shall pass" and that there is a lesson in everything that happens!

This tired mama is going to bake a cake, but here is a good song to bring in a bit of tune to this busy life!
