Halloween preparations.

I love sunny, fall days. But there is something about these foggy, cooler days that is very nice too. It makes me want to grab a cup of hot chocolate, curl up on the couch under a blanket and read a good book.

The fog rolled in yesterday while we were at soccer practice. Within 15 minutes it looked like all the girls were playing in milk-stained air. And it got cold very quickly. It got so cold that coach (aka Daddy), moved all the girls to indoor gym for the remainder of practice.

The fog just got thicker throughout the evening, and by the time we ate dinner it was very thick. I really don't mind it. Foggy days make me feel like summer is gone for good and that it's time to welcome fall. But more than that, the fog gives the days before Halloween a mysterious quality, almost like nature is preparing for spooky holiday itself.

In our neighborhood people spend many days preparing for Halloween. Some houses on the block had their Halloween decorations for over 2 weeks now. And lots of people don't spare any expenses to make their house look the spookiest in the whole neighborhood. The streets are so well decorated that we have people dropping off their kids form other parts of the city on Halloween night so that their kids could trick 'o treat here. It does make the sidewalk very crowded on October 31st, but the kids do enjoy it.

I guess that this year mother nature was not going to be outdone in the "spooky and mysterious" department because the weather forecast says that the fog is going to stick around for a while. I like it. It reminds me that Halloween is just around the corner and that we have to get our house decorated and I have to finish all the costumes for my Monkeys. This will be the last time that we are going to Trick or Treat as a family of 5! I am planning to enjoy every second of it. Meanwhile, I will just stare out the window at the foggy neighborhood and sip my tea (since I run out of hot chocolate).
