I had great plans for Friday; I really did! Thursday was the last day of Summer School for dance so Friday nobody had to wake up super early. I have been blessed with kids that like to sleep in in the morning! I am thankful for that, although on days when we do have to rise early it's a battle to get them up. But Friday, with it's promise of easier day, was going to see me and all Monkeys sleep in.

My plan for Friday was simple, catch up on all the housework, finish printing necessary items for homeschool, and make food for all of us. After our morning chores (each kid has assigned chores that they have to do in the morning) and good breakfast I attempted to get things checked off my "to-do" list. But I got interrupted by phone call from Daddy saying that he is coming home earlier today to pick us up and go measure a job. Daddy has an outside renovation business so he often has to drive around town to measure and price out jobs for customers. Whenever I can, I take our Monkeys and go with him just so we can spend more time together. See, his job often keeps him out of the house for long hours 6 to 7 days a week, and if I can just sit through driving from one place to another then I get a chance to see my husband for more than couple of hours a day. So often times when such opportunity arises I take it. Plus seeing their dad during the day is beneficial for all three Monkeys. They miss him a lot during the week.

Friday's traffic was really bad so we ended up running late for the appointment. Since the customer had somewhere to be and couldn't wait she moved the measure to another day. By this time we were over three quarters of the way to her house and wasted a lot of gas. So Daddy proposed that we go walking at the Fisherman's wharf. It was a lovely day and we were all craving a good walk by the water. The sun was lowering in the sky giving everything an orange glow. It looked beautiful. We ended up staying there for almost an hour and then we had to rush to get something to eat. Since Saturday morning I had my Gestational Diabetes teat and had to fast for 10 hours before there was not enough time to go home and make something. So as much as I hate going out for food (because of food quality and prices) I agreed because of the time constraints. It really turned out to be a lovely day. Just too bad I didn't get much "catching-up" done.

My Gestational Diabetes test was scheduled for 8:30 am on Saturday morning. Daddy was home with the Monkeys so I could go for the test uninterrupted. That was important especially since they changed how the test is done now. With my previous three pregnancies the test took 1 hour on a full stomach. That meant that a pregnant woman would come in after breakfast and drink the awful sugary drink and then get tested after 1 hour. The test looks much different now. A pregnant woman comes in after 10 hours of no food or drink and gets blood test done. She then gets the awful, sugary drink to drink in 5 minutes. If the 75 grams of sugar in the imitation Orange Soda wasn't bad enough on a full stomach it is just torturous on an empty stomach. That's right, the drink contains 75 grams of glucose! Since there are about 4 grams in a teaspoon of sugar, then this one drink carries an equivalent of almost 19 teaspoons of sugar! I am not much of a sugar person and this much sugar gets me feeling sick. I would be very surprised to get that much sugar in a week of my regular diet. And here I was at the lab having to take it all in in 5 minutes. But that wasn't even the worse part. After having the drink I wasn't allowed to have anything to eat or drink or even move around much until my 1 hour and 2 hour post-drink blood test were performed. Lets just say that for the rest of the day I was feeling very jittery. Here is to hoping that I at least pass my test so all this trouble was not for nothing.
